Projektbeschreibung

Fragestellung(en) To assess adherence to guidelines for surveillance colonoscopy after screening colonoscopy and to evaluate the degree of under- and overutilization.
To assess determinants and identify subgroups at increased risk of potential under- and overutilization of surveillance colonoscopy.
To assess prevalence of various types of colorectal neoplasms at surveillance colonoscopy according to time since and findings at screening colonoscopy.
To evaluate the potential for optimizing surveillance after screening colonoscopy.
Hintergrund / Ziele To what extent surveillance guidelines are followed in Germany is essentially unknown. We will address this for the first time, in a statewide study in the very target population, i.e. a large cohort of 5,000 participants of screening colonoscopy.
Methodik 5,000 participants of screening coloonscopy have been recruited in 2005-2007 (KolosSal study). A 6-year follow-up will be conducted to describe under- or overuse and their determinants in three groups: (1) participants without detection of colorectal neoplasms, (2) participants with a low-risk adenoma situation, and (3) participants with a high-risk adenoma situation at baseline.
